The West Branch is a tailwater of Cannonsville reservoir. The deep reservoir releases cold water from the bottom of the dam which allows word class fly fishing almost all year long.
The West Branch has some of the greatest hatch’s east of the Mississippi. Of the two Branch’s that make up the headwaters of the Delaware, the West Branch is the more famous of the Two rivers. If you get to see one of the Hatch’s, its truly a beautiful site.
Water Level Recommendations
| Water Level (CFS) | Wading | Drift Boat |
| 225 – 4oo | Excellent access to most of the river | You will lose some paint |
| 400 – 600 | Most of the river is still wadable | Easy to navigate and pay attention to depths |
| 600 – 800 | Water level makes wading a little challenging | Most rocks will be covered and an easy flow to row |
| 800 – 1000 | May want to stay near the bank or not far from it | A boat is recommended at this level |
| 1000 – 1500 | Some areas are accessible but at this level, its very challenging | Could provide primo streamer water |
| 1500 – 2000 | Some areas are accessible but at this level, its very challenging | Some of my favorite streamer levels |
| 2000 – 2500 | Wouldn’t recommend | Check water clarity |
| 2500 – 3000 | Wouldn’t recommend | Water clarity may not be worth fishing |
